Excited to Announce!

Existing home sales are expected to increase in 2014 by 8%.

November of this year saw a 38% increase in units sold compared to November 2012, albeit down 11% compared to October of this year in Greater Vancouver. November typically sees the real estate market wind down as we get closer to the holiday season. Total Active Listings are down 8% compared to this time last year.  Year to date, 2013 should finish 12 to 15% above 2012 for total units sold in Greater Vancouver. In their Fall Housing Market Outlook, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) outlined that existing home sales are expected to increase in 2014 by 8% with the market to remain in balanced conditions. This is to be supported with an increase in economic and job growth projected in 2014. Further strengthening in global economies will benefit Vancouver and help sustain economic growth. And of course, pent up demand in our housing market will continue to be a positive factor moving forward.

Look who is joining me!

Many of you know Paige Kraft and the force that she is. But for those of you who don't…she comes from a serious background of sales and marketing starting at Xerox where she gained recognition for her leadership and quickly became a President's Club member. Her marketing experience most recently at Blast Radius landed her in the boardrooms of global brands such as Disney, Microsoft and Lululemon.

Friends for years, I recruited her to help with a volunteer school event, I saw how she takes on a project and sprints, not runs or walks, she bolts. We had so many laughs together, the event was a big success and the idea of continuing the laughter and success was infectious. She is a dynamic powerhouse and I am excited to pair our talents and see what fireworks we will make together. Watch out!

Set the Scene

Sometimes I love to cook, but more than that - I love to set a table...all fancy! Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah or any type of celebration - what is your style and does this make you want to cook or get invited somewhere?

Ballet anyone?

Those words don't usually come from me. But this past month I was exposed and am intrigued. A women's group I am involved in called MCentredinvited Chan Hon Goh of Goh Ballet Academy to speak about her career as a principal ballerina and her experience in taking over the running of her parents successful Goh Ballet school. She has had a fascinating international career and the history of her parents and their ballet fame is like a history lesson about China and Russia and their early dance theories. The Goh Ballet School is hosting the Nutcracker this December and there are 200 ballet students in the cast! Check it out.

And something you can't check out, but maybe you were lucky enough to see it was theFumbling towards Ecstasy featuring music from Sarah McLachlan and the visiting Alberta Ballet. It was breathtaking. The costumes were modern, the music was like taking a walk down memory lane and the dancing was hip, cool even sexy. Loved it.

In the same week that I listened to a ballerina, went to the ballet, one of my favourite blogs directed me to a series called city.ballet. It's a 12-part online documentary series about the New York City Ballet, narrated by Sarah Jessica Parker. Through each 6 minute episode, you hear from soloists who feel stuck in the ranks, principal ballerinas feeling all eyes upon them, apprentices desperately trying to get into the company and those in hoping to stand out. Exhausting, brutal and inspiring. Have no fear the coincidence of all these ballet experiences happening at once, is not inspiring me to don any pointed toe shoes - that would just be exhausting and brutal for all!

Is anyone out there addicted to Scandal?

I know I am not alone in the binge watching of shows. On my Ipad mini I have lived in the English country side with Downton Abbey, the Pentagon with Homeland and of course in the underground Meth lab of Breaking Bad...but then I wondered what next? Well, that would be Scandal. So I am back in Washington, more often in the White House than the Pentagon and am addicted. Anyone else there with me?
